Lincoln Road’s Progressive Congregation
Miami Beach Community Church offers you this invitation, no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here. Whether you are gay or straight, young or old, rich or poor, you are encouraged to be a part of our community. We are an inclusive church on a mission to model the teachings of Jesus Christ, compassionately caring for the sick, serving our city, and providing a space for life-long spiritual growth.
We are Miami Beach’s first church, established in 1921, and we are also part of a denomination known for being a church of firsts, the United Church of Christ. In 1785, Lemuel Haynes became the first African-American to be ordained. He later become a world renowned preacher and writer. In 1853, Antoinette Brown became the first woman to be ordained into Christian ministry since New Testament times. Then, in 1973, Rev. William R. Johnson became the first openly gay person to be ordained in the history of the Christian church. These are just a few examples of the United Church of Christ’s list of firsts. Join us for one of our Sunday services. Our traditional service begins at 10:30 a.m. During this service, we excite the imagination and nourish the soul with traditional hymns and liturgy. We embrace the roots of our faith by worshipping in a style similar to our ancestors before us.
If you are not a morning person, join us at 6:00 p.m for our contemporary service, Celebration. This is a spirit-filled worship service where you can be free to clap your hands, make a joyful noise, and dance in the aisles. This upbeat service is sure to recharge your spiritual energy and prepare you for the week ahead. No matter which time you choose, we hope you will join us. God has a purpose for your life. Rise up, reach out and pursue it.
