Miami Beach Community Church (MBCC) was built in 1921 making our sanctuary the oldest church in Miami Beach. Though we have a beautiful and historic campus, our thinking is progressive and our ministries are dynamic and spirit-filled. MBCC reflects the diversity and energy of South Beach. Our church is exciting and alive. When you walk in the doors of the church you are greeted by fellow seekers—all are welcome at Miami Beach Community Church, regardless of where you are on life’s journey.


Since 1957, the United Church of Christ has been the church of firsts, weaving God’s message of hope and extravagant welcome with action for justice and peace. Together, we live out our faith in ways that effect change in our communities.  The UCC's many "firsts" mean that we have inherited a tradition of acting upon the demands of our faith.  When we read in Galatians: "There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus"—a demand is made upon us. And so we were the first historically white denomination to ordain an African-American, the first to ordain a woman, the first to ordain an openly gay man, and the first Christian church to affirm the right of same-gender couples to marry. We were in the forefront of the anti-slavery movement and the Civil Rights movement.  Our response to the demands of our faith is woven into the history of our country.


At Miami Beach Community Church we model the teachings of Jesus Christ through an open-minded ministry of inclusiveness and compassion, committed to faithfulness, service to the community and life-long spiritual development. We live out our faith whether feeding the hungry and homeless or marching in the Gay parade. We help build houses for the poor and help equip the homeless as they transform their lives. We are committed to social justice and believe that God is still-speaking.
We welcome all to Christ’s table and uphold the sacraments of Communion and Baptism. People from many denominations and all walks of life are part of our family. We are equals. We are a congregational church, where everyone has a voice and we seek to fulfill God’s will as a community of believers


Miami Beach, Fl… February 2017- Built in 1921 on land donated by Carl Fisher, the MIAMI BEACH COMMUNITY CHURCH (MBCC) - the oldest church in Miami Beach and Member of the United Church of Christ - is proud to announce its 2017 Board of Directors & officers.




John A. Dalkowski III, CRE, MAI has been attending MBCC since moving from New York City to Miami Beach in 1999. John is a highly regarded commercial real estate professional with more than 45 years of extensive experience in real estate counseling and investment analysis, litigation support & expert witness services, acquisitions, dispositions and workout strategies, and real estate development, valuation, and marketing. John is the owner of National Real Estate Research, LLC, and has been a self-employed real estate entrepreneur since 1971 - as a developer, general contractor, broker and commercial valuation professional. He has provided valuation / consulting services on hundreds of properties, exceeding $10 Billion in cumulative value, and has an extensive range of geographical experience in more than 26 U.S. states. Most important, John is pleased to volunteer his time and experience on two not-for-profit boards, as well as a variety of other volunteer activities at MBCC.


Victor Gimenez has been coming to MBCC since 2003, had his Blessing of Union at the Church in 2007 with husband Edwin Scharlau, became a member in 2010, had his son Joshua baptized here in 2014, and has been involved in numerous committees throughout his time here.  Professionally, Victor has had two careers:  one previously in construction management, and the second currently following his passion for film as the Executive Director of the MiFo LGBT Film Festival.  Victor is in the third year of his term on the Board.

HERB SOSA | Board Secretary

Community activist, historian, preservationist and freelance writer, Herb Sosa is a founding member of, and currently serves as President of Unity Coalition|Coalición Unida, offering Leadership, Protection & Promotion of Latino|Hispanic LGBTQ rights. As a MBCC Board member, Sosa also works closely with our community on issues of Diversity, Marketing, Liturgical arts & restoration of our Sanctuary & campus for our upcoming 100th anniversary.

DAVID FIORELLO | Is a native Floridian. Fiorello joined Miami Beach Community Church in 2013. Miami Beach resident with partner Larry Wickenheiser, and is grateful every day for family and friends.

ANGELA GRIFFIN | Angela A. Griffin a native of Barbados and raised in Boston, Ma. She is a loving wife to Dennis Griffin and devoted member at Miami Beach Community Church. When she is not at taking care of her lovely yorkies Nala and Remy she works as a Billing Coordinator at Jackson North Hospital. Angela is also an avid member of WIN (Women Inspired Now) and Co-Chair of the fellowship committee at MBCC. She joined MBCC in 2013 and served as the head usher for 2 years. Her heart is filled with compassion and she loves God. As a woman of faith and prayer she now serves a Disciple and a Deacon at the church looking forward to greater things to come.

ELLEN FRAZER-JAMESON | Ellen Frazer-Jameson has been attending Miami Beach Community Church since 2000.  On a Sunday morning walk down Lincoln Road she was mesmerized by the sound of the music radiating from the sanctuary.   Now she is honored to be a member of the choir – and blessed to sing with the amazing professional singers from Florida Grand Opera and other volunteer choir participants.  Ellen is a published author, journalist and former BBC broadcaster. She is also a theatre professional and educator.  She returns to her hometown of London regularly but admits Miami Beach weather is better!  

Ex Officio | SCOTT SHACKELTON | Treasurer 

After a rewarding career helping Small Business owners and professionals develop their businesses to their potential, Scott now volunteers extensively for several non-profits.  Scott helps MBCC record and report our finances with integrity and transparency as well as helps us be aware of how our relationship with money can be one indicator of our relationship with God. Scott Shackleton is a CPA with an MBA, and is a partner in funspotsrentals.com, offering High Quality, affordable vacations.
